Recently, a client asked me which school districts were good in San Diego. I did my due diligence and provided them with the following list; San Diego, Poway, Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, and San Dieguito to name a few, based on the best education quality criteria. But I feel that this is a loaded question.
Upon looking at these districts, one would assume that you would have to be wealthy in order to send your child to a wealthier school district so that your child can get the best education possible. I am here to say that this is not true. Not all people in good school districts are wealthy. This is a generalization. Many people in these areas made a conscious decision to live there regardless of the cost, and many live paycheck to paycheck.
The reason that schools in wealthier districts provide a better education is because they have a higher parent participation. The majority of parents in these areas consist of educated stay at home moms who have the ability to participate in their child’s activities at the school and at home. This does not mean that families in poorer school districts can’t give their child the same quality of education as those in the wealthier ones. I know of many children who have succeeded in the not so great neighborhoods and schools. The common denominator was how much interaction they had with their teachers, parents, and amount of participation they invested in their school activities.
So parents, nurture your child and provide them with all the confidence and arsenal they will need for success.
