For someone that lives in Mission Hills, it’s great to see that some of my favorite neighborhoods made the cut as the ‘2015 Best Places to Live in San Diego’ according to San Diego Magazine.
Each week I’ll be posting 1 ‘Best Place to Live in San Diego’ and give a run down of why it deserves to be. This week we will look at South Park.
Though this neighborhood is small in size, it’s huge in character. This neighborhood is very hip and they do their best to stay unique and small by fighting to keep away big retailers. There are many cool bars, restaurants, and boutique shops that you can go to. To name a few, there is Hamilton’s (hip bar that serves over 30+ craft beers on draft), Buona Forchetta (great Italian and pizzas), South Park Brewing Co. (good beer and seafood), Station Tavern and Burgers (good beer and burgers), etc...
There is the famous quarterly South Park Walkabout, a fun-filled evening festival, which showcases all the unique businesses within South Park, as well as the annual Old House Fair that showcases the historic homes and building of South Park. And who can forget the annual Tour De Fat festival – New Belgium Brewing’s celebration of all things bicycle, honoring mankind’s greatest invention. What can be more fun than wearing costumes, riding your bike through 1 of the older neighborhoods in San Diego, and drinking beer?
The Walk score, which is a number from 0-100 that helps you find a walkable place to live, is 75. This means that most errands can be accomplished on foot. It is the 35th most walkable neighborhood in San Diego. The Bike Score, which measures whether an area is good for biking based on bike lanes and trails, hills, road connectivity, and destination, is 55. This means that it is mostly flat with minimal bike lanes.
The median home in South Park is about $426,000 and the average rent is around $1,750 making this neighborhood reasonably affordable to live in.
