Many people, including my friends, have raised their concern on how to conserve water during this drought. Besides installing a grey water system for your home for a few thousand dollars, there is also the option of catching rainwater every time it rains. The best part about the latter is that it’s cheaper AND you can either use it to water your plants OR you can sell it to the city!
After doing some research, I’ve found that the City of San Diego Public Utilities and The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has a Residential Rain Barrel rebate. The rebate from CSDPU is $50/barrel. The rebate from MWDSC is $75/barrel. Some may qualify to receive both rebates at the same time.
You will have to purchase the barrels and they are $119/barrel. This is what they look like.
