Best Places to Live – Mission Hills
It’s no surprise that the neighborhood that I currently live in is 1 of the best places to live in San Diego.
What can I say about my favorite neighborhood without sounding biased? For starters it 1 of the older neighborhoods in San Diego with homes that are uniquely different in size and architectural style. Because of this, the neighborhood exudes character and charm.
My wife and I love the fact that everything is in walking distance or biking distance. It is about 2 miles from Old town and Little Italy, 1 mile from Hillcrest, 4 miles from University Heights, 5 miles from North Park, and 4-6 miles from the harbor and airport. Besides being close to all these other great neighborhoods, you are also surrounded by fantastic places to eat such as The Red Door, Brooklyn Girl, The Patio, Farmer’s Bottega, Izakaya Masa, Lefty’s Pizza, and Café Bleu. There’s also new places for desserts and coffee such as Heartworks Coffee, Kettle & Stone, Cake, Ritta’s, and Gelato Vero Caffe. For drinks and beer, you have the option of Harley Gray Kitchen, The Lamplighter, Toma Sol, and The Aero Club, as well as the restaurants mentioned above.
Have I also mentioned that you are 2-3 miles from all the grocery stores? We have Vons, Trader Joes, Sprouts, Whole Foods, and soon to open Bristol Farms, which will be across the street from Vons. Talk about convenient!
So what is there to do in Mission Hills? Honestly not much since this place is so small and quiet. The only events of interests that happen here annually are the Summer Concerts at Pioneer Park, the 4th of July Extravaganza, and the Garden Tours. The 1st 2 events are free.
The Walk score, which is a number from 0-100 that helps you find a walkable place to live, is 65 making it the 32nd most walkable neighborhood in San Diego. Some errands can be done on foot. The Bike Score, which measures whether an area is good for biking based on bike lanes and trails, hills, road connectivity, and destination, is 49. This means that there aren’t many dedicated bike lanes.
The median home in Mission Hills is about $1,027,000 and the average rent is around $3,500 making this neighborhood 1 of the more expensive areas to live.
